Long car ride to the vet. Roxy did so good. She wasn't happy about it and didn't hesitate to voice her displeasure.
  • 02
Panted a lot because stressed but calmed down when I stuck my had in to pet her.

Charmed the heck out of the vet. Literally perfect behaviour and even snoozed on the table while we talked.
  • 05
Vet carried her and staff gathered round to pet and coo over her majesty. She's not microchipped so confirmed a stray.

Quite young, between 1-2yo. Very healthy, good teeth, glossy coat. Doc could feel at least 3 and estimates between 3-5 kittens.
  • 08
She's quite a small cat and weighs 5.5kg, a lot of the weight are kittens. Estimated delivery in 1-2 weeks as she's not lactating yet.

OP VincentVan_Dough I'm still posting in this sub because she's not officially my cat yet. Husband agreed to foster but not to adopt. I'm working on it... pretty sure his defences will fall. When I get that microchip in with my name, I'll take it to r/cats or r/dadswhodidntwantpets

RailRuler When did you realize she was a Trojan cat?
  • 14
OP VincentVan_Dough She first appeared 9 November in our garden. I thought she was just fat. And since she was so friendly, I thought she belonged to someone as we have a lot of visiting indoor/outdoor cats around. A week or so later, I was like... waitaminute... that belly looks kind of big for her little frame. A few days later, it became even more obvious and since she lets us handle her, I got a good feel of her belly and confirmed it.

NattG I had the opposite experience, lol. When I moved into a new house, I thought this lovely orange girl was a pregnant stray, so I set up a little cat shelter on my porch and bought food for pregnant mothers until I could figure out what to do (rental with no pets allowed). Nope, she was just fat. She had me pegged as an easy source of extra food when she was roaming.

    OP VincentVan_Dough That's hilarious >>

LilArtsyCreature When those kittens show up and make it past the jellybean/potatoes stage and start exploring the world it's gonna get harder I bet
  • 18
OP VincentVan_Dough I'm counting on it! But honestly, Roxy has already stolen his heart. And she's the one I want to keep. Already found 3 people I know personally who I know will give a kitten a good home. I'm now confident i can get the rest adopted without the help of a shelter. Kittens are easy to adopt out, adult cats not so much. My heart would break if she ended up in a shelter or euthanised.

NattG I just pictured her poor owner desperately trying to put her on a diet while I was giving her the extra high calorie pregnancy food, lol.
  • 20
OP VincentVan_Dough I can imagine the owner posting on r/dechonkers - "I don't understand why my chonk is getting chonkier when I've cut down her food by so much"

LilArtsyCreature Thank you so much for taking Roxy in, and already getting the ball rolling on those adoptions. 100% correct on those rates, kittens are cute and bond so quickly, while adult cats have grown out of that "baby charm/magic"? phase and can take more work depending on many factors. (I think they still have that charm, but I get why folks gravitate to kittens, they're like one of nature's cutest animals. Hard to compete with

So many shelters are over-run and run ragged rn, so folks like you stepping up to volunteer your time, money, and love for these animals is a very heartfelt and sincere act of kindness and generosity. I hope you know it is appreciated.

OP VincentVan_Dough Thank you. It's in the blood. My mum is a cat lover and had loads growing up. Dad was not. When I was 16, I found an abandoned newborn kitten, eyes closed and umbilical cord still attached. Long story short, I had a dad who didn't want pets but fell in love big time After Chairman Mao passed at 10, they became the Cat Couple who took care of cats. in their condos (up to 20!) - TNR, treatment of injured/sick cats and daily feeding. They've been doing it since, 20+ years.

At 26, i didn't have the ability to commit to a cat so I fostered adult/older cats for many years - the ones that were having trouble getting adopted, once I did palliative care. Stayed away from the kittens though! Too dangerous for my heart.

Then I met my husband, another cat lover. We adopted my late queen in 2010. Again, an older cat at 4yrs old and missing some teeth. She passed last December at 20. I have a soft spot for the unwanted and overlooked. CDS always makes sure they find me.

the-lady-roxi I always do, except you spelled my name wrong ;).
  • 27
OP VincentVan_Dough LOL. You have the BEST name!!
  • 28
dm21120 Put his name on it ☺
  • 29
OP VincentVan_Dough I did somewhat... shes registered at the vet with his surname... i screenshotted the confirmation message of the appt and he melted →
  • 30
    I_ReadTheComments 1 She's so gorgeous!!!!
  • 31
OP VincentVan_Dough I'm biased. I think she's the prettiest cat ever (next to my late queen).

anchen47 spay abort is an option to consider! you can spay abort up to delivery, and it's best practice generally since more kittens just exacerbate the issue of the thousands of cats looking for homes already. also, for such a small and young cat, pregnancy can be dangerous and the health of the kittens is not guaranteed! that can mean round-the-clock care, guarantees hundreds for fixing them before adopting out, and possibly much more if they have health issues common for the kittens of, what
  • 33
OP VincentVan_Dough I've considered it. I know it's ethical. But I can't bring myself to do it. I can feel them moving in her belly already. I know there are thousands out there but I know I can find good loving homes with responsible owners for the ones I have coming. 3 friends have committed, 1 more is getting back to me. 2 have had their geriatric cats pass away and the other 2 are looking for a companion for their current cat. All their cats are/were chipped, fixed, vaccinated and indoor. Co

As for Roxy, I don't mind the expense and time. The whole family is committed to round the clock care and I have an experienced professional catsitter to cover while we're gone. She used to take care of my medically complex 20yo cat when we had to travel. She is in the care of my vet should there be any medical emergencies. Doing the best i can, while trying to be able to sleep at night and live with my conscience.
